Artist Bio:
Betty Scott has always had two passions in her life: art and animals. Betty was born and raised in Ponca City, Oklahoma where she had the opportunity to explore both of her passions and to grow with each. As the oldest of eight siblings, Betty loved helping her mother teach crafts to a Cub Scout pack each week. As a child, she worked with “paint by numbers” sets, molded wax into angel sculptures, and carved bars of soap. She spent over 32 years working in the Computer Department at Conoco Inc., and enrolled in classes at Northern Oklahoma College, graduating with degrees in both business and art.
Betty’s love of art led her to be involved for decades with the Ponca City Art Association, serving as a member of the Board of Directors, Secretary, President, Exhibit Chairman, and Fine Arts Festival Chairman. One of her accomplishments was creating the annual Photography Show, giving credit and exhibition to the members who express their art through cameras.
Betty has always had an ‘open’ heart and mind to art, willing to try new methods and mediums. Over her life she has enjoyed photography, oil painting, tole painting, lamp working glass, fusing glass, metal art clay, metal working jewelry, beading, ceramics and polymer clay. She never stops learning, always finding inspiration and applications with each new medium.
Betty was fortunate to serve as a Diplomat with the U.S. Department of State, representing our nation and living 2 years in Moscow, Russia and 3 years in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. At each location, Betty joined groups of ladies from numerous countries who were skilled in different crafts and mediums, and through these meetings each taught one another, learning new skills and abilities that inspired their own work.
Betty started her own label, “BJ’s Bling” after returning to the United States, and worked to develop a line of art for sale. After moving to Las Vegas, NV in 2006, she joined the Las Vegas Polymer Clay Guild and served as its President for several years, and also took classes in ceramic arts and silversmithing for jewelry at the College of Southern Nevada.
Betty enjoys teaching, having taught beading around the world, art classes at a Senior Citizen Center in Las Vegas, as well as classes in glass fusing and polymer clay creation. She also gives private lessons by appointment.
